Soil Temperatures this week started out at 45°F and have slowly crept up into the low 50’s. Due to the weather condition that are possible in November I am very concerned about getting good soil conditions to put Nh3 on and would want to start as soon as ground conditions would allow.
We will lose 65 minutes of daylight from November 1 to November 30 and the likelihood of having good ground conditions after a rain event gets less and less the deeper into the month of November you get.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to watch our Soil Warrior strip till machine working in a field that was corn this year and will be corn in 2016. I was very impressed with both the width of soil that was tilled up and also the depth that the implement was working. The width was almost 10” wide and the depth was a good 8” deep, which left a very good seedbed to plant into next spring.
I can see where the Soil Warrior strip till machine will find a home on some of the highly erodible soils, with the amount of residue that is left behind. The concern that I had was how this implement was going to handle a Corn on Corn situation and wanted to see it run in those conditions.
Not every implement can work in every condition or soil type, but after watching this machine yesterday I am more comfortable recommending it to be used.
