Many nutrient deficiencies can be identified by the appearance of the crop but usually when that is the case economic injury has already occurred, yield has already been affected. The most accurate way to determine if the crop is lacking in any of the essential plant nutrients is to take a tissue test. A tissue test will tell you what the crop is lacking at a certain point in the growing season.
Different nutrients are more essential at different times throughout the year. If your crop is lacking in certain micronutrients you are not going to realize the crops full potential and with the investment growers are making in Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium and Seed it is critical to determine what other factors maybe limiting a crops yield potential.
