Agronomy Topic of the Week: Tissue Testing

Many nutrient deficiencies can be identified by the appearance of the crop but usually when that is the case economic injury has already occurred, yield has already been affected. The most accurate way to determine if the crop is lacking in any of the essential plant nutrients is to take a tissue test. A tissue test will tell you what the crop is lacking at a certain point in the growing season.
Different nutrients are more essential at different times throughout the year. If your crop is lacking in certain micronutrients you are not going to realize the crops full potential and with the investment growers are making in Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium and Seed it is critical to determine what other factors maybe limiting a crops yield potential. By taking a tissue sample we can answer the question about which nutrients are limiting and create remedies to correct any deficiencies.
All tissue samples are run through the Agrisolutions Nutrisolutions Tool to provide you with an accurate micronutrient recommendation that is specific to your crop and field. The Nutrisolutions Tool is a large database that contains tens of thousands of tissue tests that gives us the ability to create the most accurate recommendation possible for your crop and field. Given the results of the tissues samples that have been taken by Central Valley Co-op the probability that at least one essential nutrient is going to be limiting during the growing season is extremely high, as high as 90%. With tissue testing we can figure out which nutrient is most limiting and properly correct that deficiency, instead of throwing the proverbial kitchen sink at the crop and still not correctly addressing the nutrient or nutrients that are deficient.
The Nutrisolutions tool has recommendations for 11 different crops, so let us help you to maximize your yield potential in 2011 by tissue testing all your crops, from corn and soybeans to alfalfa. Central Valley Co-op has many proven products that can effectively correct any nutrient deficiencies that your crop may have.
